Decent luxury

It looks nice. I always wear 8-size shoes, but New Balance M990 is a little bit large in length for me. Anyway, it's fantastic shoes, I like it!

Made In USA New Balance are the BEST

I love my New Balance M990 shoes. I have worn this classic style for years and have returned to purchase. I will continue to do so providing New Balance keeps this shoe MADE IN THE USA.

Great shoe, but doesn't last long

I've worn 99x series New Balance shoes for going on 15 years. They are great shoes and I never shop around for anything else. The last few sets haven't lasted as long with daily wearing to work: usually less than 12 months. Most notably, a 1"x.5" chunk of my sole recently tore off at the 9 month mark. The past few sets have developed a terrible smell after 9 months but that seems fixed with my latest 993s.So why 4 stars instead of 1 or 2?I love 99xs because they are comfortable, fit great, look great, come in a great number of widths, have plenty of room for custom orthopedic inserts under the insole, and are (mostly) made in America.----------I now own the 990v3 (2013) model and find it to be well constructed and comfortable, just like every other 99x I've worn. There are subtle changes including the larger "N" logo and new materials, but unless you look closely, you can't tell these apart from past 99xs. That's just the way I like it!

990's are the best shoes for my feet!

In my 56 years I've wasted thousands of dollars on shoes trying to find the right fit. I have flat feet, size 13EEE. Very hard to find a comfortable shoe! New Balance 990 fits the bill. I'm on my feet all day at work and this shoe keeps me from tiring. "Spring in my step" all day. I live in Chicago and am looking for this comfort level in a shoe that would be more appropriate during our winters.

the New Balance 990 - stable and steady

I normally walk in New Balance 1123s and 1540s but thought I would try a stability shoe that is lighter weight than the Motion Control shoes. I also use a podiatrist prescription cusom orthotic in my shoes. The 990 is a very good shoe - stable, sturdy, functional, and durable. I would use the 990s for faster paced walks than the 1123s and 1540s. So far the 990s have performed just as I expected. I currently rotate 5 different pair of New Balance shoes for my daily 6 to 10 mile walks. The 990 is a very good shoe that continues to carry the excellent performance of all New Balance products.

A great all around shoe

I love the look and feel of the New Balance Women's W990. I also love the fact that the shoe is made in the USA! The shoe fits comfortably and wears well. I have extremely high arches, and would liked to have seen a bit more arch support inside the shoe, but it is not uncommon for me to find shoes lacking in that area. I also would have liked to have a bit more room on the top of the shoe to accommodate my high arch. But other than that, I like the feel of the shoe very well. The shoe is durable and fairly comfortable, providing good stability.

Good for the Casual Runner, But Too Heavy for Long Hauls

I like to run regularly, and I'm very particular about my running shoes. I like my running shoes lightweight, breathable, and with good support. Also, having a shoe that I don't need to break in by walking around in them for a week is a major plus. Sadly, New Balance's 990 Heritable Running Shoes didn't fit what I needed to get a good run in.First off, these shoes aren't heavy, but they definitely aren't light either. The soles are heavy and not flexible, and while it gives me good support, I felt bogged down by the weight. The sides of the shoes are flexible, however, they do require time to "break in". On my first run with them, I felt definitely pinching on the sides of my feet and later, pain in my toes. I figured I needed to break in the shoes, so I walked around with them for about a week. They still didn't feel "just right" after that week, but I ran again in them anyways. I still had a little pain in my toes and sides, but not quite as bad. I haven't experienced that with my other running shoes (at least, not in a long time) and after a couple of runs with the Heritages, I started getting something I haven't gotten in a long time: the dreaded "Runner's Black Toenails". Because I haven't upped my mileage in running (I started running less, actually, because the shoes were still putting too much pressure on my feet), changed my pace, or area I run in, I can only attribute it to the one thing that did change - the shoes. I ended up downgrading the Heritages to using as walking/errand running shoes. That said, the New Balance Heritage make for good errand running/walking shoes. They're comfortable enough to walk around in, however they're not for me when it comes to the long distance running. I would definitely try them out in the store to see if it's a good fit for your needs before buying.

Very very nice shoes

I think I ran in 990s when they initially came out... and now they're back as "Heritage" models. Thanks for making me feel old, New Balance! ;)Anyway. These are very nice running shoes for someone who needs motion control. They'd also be suitable for walking. Some reviewers complained about the width, but I have not found that to be the case. Since I got my pair as a review set, I didn't have the option of picking wide, like I normally would, and I was pretty worried about it. However, when the shoes arrived, I'd just finished 5 miles in my 9.5 *wide*ASICS Women's GEL-Kayano 18 Running Shoe. So my feet were all swelled up and cranky and used to wide shoes. And the 990s felt as wide or wider than the wide-sized Kayanos.Other things to note. The shoes are made in USA and beautifully constructed. The pair I got is gray, kind of bland but still pretty looking. In fact, I see fashionable young Asian ladies wearing this exact pair out and about. (Sorry for bringing the cool factor down here, ladies.) The laces are nice and long. The inner lining is lovely and smooth and doesn't make my shortie socks squiggle down the back of my heel like many other shoes do.The shoes aren't quite as cushy as I'd want for running on concrete, and the arch isn't especially high. While they're adequate as is, I think adding a fancy insert likeSorbothane Ultra Graphite Arch Insolemakes the shoes even more fantastic.

A sharp-looking shoe but I could never see running in them.

I am a huge fan of the New Balance line of sport/fitness shoes and have been wearing them exclusively for many years. I was never a hardcore runner, but I was a power walker and sometimes did jogging sprints during my walks to up the cardio and caloric burn. These days, I do more leisurely walking for the most part due to painful arthritis in my feet and knees. For most of my years wearing New Balance shoes, I wore walking shoes. In recent years, with the increasing need for support and cushioning due to my foot pain, my local New Balance store recommended running shoes. I have been wearing the WR1012 most recently, though that style sadly has been discontinued. In the last few years, I have been wearing a 6 C/D. Since I am reviewing these shoes via the Amazon Vine program and only the B width was offered, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the B width shoe was more comfortable on me width-wise than most Bs. They are snug on me width-wise but doable, and I have room in the toe box. This is, in my opinion, a sharp-looking shoe. The upper is a mix of mostly light gray suede-like leather with some dark gray accents and gray breathable fabric. The shoe is about the same weight as my WR1012 when I hold one in each hand, but this W990 feels MUCH less substantial on my foot than the WR1012.I wear this shoe when I'm going to my volunteer jobs or going out to lunch and want to wear something a bit nicer looking than my older WR1012s but don't want to wear a dress shoe.I do have pain if I wear this shoe, even just to go grocery shopping. I don't mean pain from the shoe rubbing, but arthritis pain. I can't ever imagine running in it or even power walking in it even if I was still doing those things. It just doesn't have the stability, cushioning and heft that I would need for that.In summary, it's a good-looking shoe to wear around town because I wear sneakers almost all the time due to my arthritis but, even if I was still running, I would not think of running in these shoes.3 1/2 stars
